Antique Japanese Scroll by Seigai
A handmade washi scroll estimated to be from the Meiji era. Yellow flowers and foilage handpainted on washi with a poem.
The signature and seal of the artist Seigai is on the bottom left of the scroll.
The upper crosspiece known as hyoumoku is karaki wood. The lower crosspiece also known as jiku is a also karaki wood in black lacquer. The mounting or heri is silk. The honshi or artwork is also in good condition.
Silk brocade strips also known as ichimoji run across the top and bottom of the centre piece of the artwork.
Hand made washi is also used for the scroll backing and is traditionally used in all antique scrolls.
The scroll is in good condition for its age with some signs of foxing and toning.
Dimensions: approximately 1.95 metres in length 44 cm width. Length of roller 50 cm.
Shipping is via Australia Post and includes tracking and signature on delivery.
