Our Youngest Collector of Japanese Objects

Our Youngest Collector of Japanese Objects

We met Angelo recently at our stand at the Melbourne Fair.  He purchased a vintage Japanese Childrens book from the 1950s and told us about his interest in collecting Japanese toys (very topical at this time of year).  Here are Angelo’s words about his interest and collection.

Angelo

Here is my little Bio about me and the Japanese toy collection.
About the Collection
The collection started out with a U.S AIR FORCE plane which my dad had been given for Christmas in 1975, I then realised how unique this style of toy was from any other in the current day. On my weekly travels to the Camberwell Sunday Market to search for paintings and other items, I found a couple which were downsizing and they had around 5 or 6 little turtle/bugs, recognising this style I picked it up to see if it was what I thought it was. I saw the markings ‘/K\ Made in Japan’ and bought them, the collection of toys continued.
Favourites in the Japanese toy Collection
My most favourite in the Japanese collection is the No. 642 BULLDOZER, I just love all the colours of it, although it’s not complete it still is very nice.
About Me
My name is Angelo, I am 13 years old and I collect all forms of art and Japanese related items. In the future I wish to study Art and Science and use forensics to determine whether a painting is Fake or Forged. I go to the Camberwell Sunday Market every Sunday to search for something new for my collection. I very much enjoy talking to the stallholders/dealers at the market. My art collection ranges from 18th century paintings to modern current day works. All my friends think I’m a bit strange being interested in something that was made 20, 30 years ago or more.
One thing that I think is lacking in my generation is an interest in the past, but also in the future.
