A beautiful Gold Antique Japanese Kogai from a bygone era. A Ladies Hair Accessory traditionally worn by Geisha and Maiko as part of their ornate hair decorations.
A beautiful gold Kogai from the Meiji era using 24 carat gold for the lacquer work.
A master craftsman creates each piece over several weeks using a process known as maki-e.
Intricate botanical motifs have been applied with great care and precision by a skilled craftsman. There is a metal band on the kogai which is probably brass where it opens up to reveal a silver lacquer wooden sheath which is also in very good condition.
The Kogai is from the late 1880’s which is the Meiji Era. It is in good condition with usual signs of wear for an item of this age.
