Japanese Imperial Army Sake Cup

Japanese Imperial Army Sake Cup  Japanese Russio War, 1905 Complete with Box.   Stand not Included.

A wonderful Antique Japanese Imperial Army Sake cup which was presented to Nishimura Gunso (Sergeant, Nishimura) in 1905 as a commemoration of his return from the 1904 Russo-Japanese War.

Inside the cup are crossed Japanese Imperial Army and Japanese National Flags, painted in 18ct Gold paint & written, also in Gold is, “Dai 9 Sidan Shicho-Hei” (Transport Soldier 9th Division)” and “Gaisen Kinen” (A commemoration of the triumphant return). Underneath on the base is written “Nishimura Gunso” (Sergeant, Nishimura). Solid wood, hand crafted, painted & lacqered with genuine Urushi red lacquer & Gold paint.

Remarkable condition for the age, especially considering WWi & WWII & the traditional celebrational gusto which was usually excercised to extremes. No chips, no cracks. Some minor marks & signs of use. Complete with original Kiri wood box which, despite having a substantial crack on the base panel, is structurally sound. Dia. 4.1″(10.3cm) x High 1.5″(3.8cm)
