Pair of Signed Imari Sometsuke Covered Bowls
Mid 1800s Edo era Signed Imari covered bowls with blue underglaze handpainted phoenix and lotus blossom motifs. Hand painted with Inban which is a technique used to produce early Imari porcelain and signed on the lid signifying a potter of high repute.
The usual sprinkling of kiln and firing marks are also confirmation of authenticity.
The approximate dimensions of each bowl vary slightly. Both bowls are approximately 7.5 cm height. The approximate diameter of one is 10.5 cm and the other is 11 cm. The total weight of both bowls is approximately 540 grams.
