1890s Aritayaki IMARI Large Covered Bowls
Rare and beautiful Aritayaki 有田 IMARI Meiji Era Porcelain Covered Bowls for sale individually. Made in the 1880s the bowls are much larger and heavier than usual and have a rare external lipped lid. The two character enamel seal for Bizen is also embossed on each lid.
Completely hand painted with a deep cobalt blue under glaze and an over glaze with polychrome enamel panels. Ironstone red lotus flowers and fans with trees and green foliage also highlighted with real gold accents. A very rare set with with external lipped lids which are also designed to be upturned and used as secondary plates or bowls.
They are in excellent condition with minor original kiln marks and crazing as is normal and expected in porcelain from this era.
Much larger and heavier than usual and with external lipped lids approx 13.5cm ( 5.2 inches) wide and 12cm (3.6 inches) high. Weight 880 grams each.
