Two Antique IMARI Some-Nishiki Plates
Rare and beautiful 140 Year old genuine IMARI Some-Nishiki Plates (1880-1890).
Unusual and very rare tea ceremony dishes. They have an unusual shape with gold highlights and intricate motifs on the underside of the bowls. The Arabesque and Octopus motifs around the outside symbolise prosperity and longevity. Arabesque/Karakusa and Tako-Karakusa (蛸唐草).
The bowls are in excellent condition with no cracks of chips.
The Dimensions of each bowl are: Width 6.2 inches : Length 4.3 inches : Height 1.8 inches : Weight 200g
Some-Nishiki has a brocade pattern in cobalt blue under a white glaze. They were also produced as tributes for the existing rulers of the region.
Accessories such as the stand are not part of the sale.
