Two Antique IMARI Some-Nishiki Plates
Rare and beautiful 140 Year old genuine IMARI Some-Nishiki Plates (1880-1890).
Unusual and very rare tea ceremony dishes. Scarce design with gold highlights and intricate motifs on the underside of the bowls. The Arabesque and Octopus motifs around the outside symbolise prosperity and longevity. Arabesque/Karakusa and Tako-Karakusa (蛸唐草).
The bowls are in excellent condition with no cracks of chips.

Some-Nishiki has a brocade pattern in cobalt blue under a white glaze. They were also produced as tributes for the existing rulers of the region.
