A beautfully detailed shin hanga print by Kawasa Hasui titled Shiba Benten Pond.

Depicting the Benten Pond in the grounds behind the Zojoji temple in Shiba, Tokyo.
A unique work of art showing Hasui’s skills at his best with Lotus leaves and and flowers in full bloom creating a serene and colourful environment.

This print is from the original wood blocks and tbe carver is Nakajima Shobisya,

The approximate dimensions of the print are 35 cm width  and 22 cm height.

Hasui KAWASE 1883-1957 Living National Treasure

Hasui is one of the most renowed artists of the Shin Hanga movement.  He created landscapes and town views in traditional Japanese style along with Western elements.  In 1956, one year before his death, the artist was declared a Living National Treasure.
