Original Teruhide Kato Woodblock titled Hanagasa Roji also known as Red Umbrella in Alley. It depicts a traditional Kyoto alley with an umbrella left to dry outside a traditional house symbolizing the onset of the rainy season.
Hand signed by the Artist and bearing the publishers seal (Unsodo).
In excellent condition. Unmounted and unframed. Hand printed on washi with ink bleed through to the reverse.

ARTIST: TERUHIDE KATO
Born in 1936 Kato studied at Kyoto Art College and enjoyed a successful career as a Kimono Designer in the 1960s and 1970s.
At the age of 50 he decided to become a traditional woodblock artist which had been his long held dream. Kato is best known for his alley series and other contemporary shin-hanga woodblock prints of his native town Kyoto.
