Hummingbirds and Fuchsia by Toshi Yoshida
A stunning double Oban size Toshi Yoshida woodblock print. The sky is tinged with pale lavender. Hummingbirds flutter in mid air around a fuchsia tree with resplendent blooms of voilet and crimson. One can almost hear their wings in motion as they hover around the fuschsia blossoms.
The depth of colour has been beautifully rendered in this magnificent woodblock print.
First printed in 1971. This is a later edition from the Yoshida studio.
Block-signed “Toshi Yoshida” and the English title “Hummingbirds and Fuchsia” on the bottom margin.
The print is in excellent condition with no toning or foxing and it has never been mounted.
The approximate dimensions of the double oban print are 56.5 cm height and 35.5 cm width and the image size is 50.4 cm by 30.4 cm.

Toshi Yoshida – 1911-1995
Toshi Yoshida was the eldest son of Hiroshi Yoshida and travelled extensively all over the world and often with his father. His trips took him to the USA and Canada, India, Africa as well as Australia and even to the Antarctica. Yoshida’s body of work was primarily landscapes and animals which he depicted in a realistic style.
After the death of his father Hiroshi Yoshida he also experimented in abstract art for a while
eventually returning to creating realistic landscape prints.
