Antique Japanese Bronze Incense Burner
A very solid and beautifully hand crafted Antique Japanese Bronze Incense Burner from the Meiji era. The koro is also inlaid with a gold floral motif and is in very good condition.
Incense (Kodo 香道 the Way of Fragrance) is one of the three very important ceremonies in Japanese culture along with the Tea (Chanoyu 茶の湯 the Way of Tea) and Ikebana (Kado 華道 the Way of Flowers) ceremonies being the other two. These are an intrinsic cultural part of the social structure in every Japanese home. The burning of incense is an important spiritual practice. It is also a source of relaxation and enjoyment for many Japanese. This burner is also in excellent condition and has no marks or dents.
The koro dimensions are 9cm width and 14cm height. Weight is 450grams.
