 Sukenobu Mounted Pillow Print Sleeping Woman

A rare and unusual woodblock pillow print by Sukenobu.  Titled  “A woman sleeps under a mosquito net”.

Printed on Washi by Ukiyoe Kenkyu Kai Study Group in a limited quantity  on December 15 SHOWA 31st year (1956).  This print is Number 14 and from a set of 14.

Approximate print dimensions are 25 cm height and 37cm width

Approximate mounted dimensions are 36 cm height and 52 cm width

Mounted to Museum Conservation Standard and print tipped to acid free foam core backing and mat by rice paper hinges upper corners and wheatflour starch adhesive.

Nishikawa Sukenobu  1671 to 1750 was a Japanese print maker from Kyoto and famous for his works depicting women from all walks of life.  His two volume series Appreciating 100 Women also known as Hyakunin joro shinasadame was published in 1723.
