1880s Japanese Makuri Honshi

A highly decorative and hand painted silk Japanese makuri honshi (scroll painting) from the 1880s. Featuring cherry blossoms beautifully hand detailed and mounted on heavy gilted floral brocade silk and a thick washi backing. Unknown artist’s signature and seal is also present on the lower right.

The painting is in very good to excellent condition for its age. The colours are bright and show no signs of fading, insect damage or fraying.

The signature and seal of the artist is also on the bottom right of the artwork.

Approximate dimensions of painting are 51 cm width and 49 cm height and 65.5 cm width and 55 cm height with the border.
