Update from Kyoto

Here we are in the middle of chestnut season.  Wagashi are traditional sweets which are available in the many sweets shops in Kyoto.  We found various versions of chestnut with adzuki bean encased in rice dough or in a little bamboo container.  Mushrooms are also in season.  You can enjoy both of these foods in the variety of Japanese cuisine throughout Kyoto.

Kyoto is full of small family run restaurants with delicious dishes which are clean and well prepared.  In most cases the food is prepared in front of you as you sip on a local beer or saki.
